Stage One: Level 7 Diploma in Human Resource Management (QCF) – 6 - 8 Months
Credits: 120 Credits
The objective of the Level 7 Diploma in Human Resource Management qualification is to provide learners with the skills and understanding in human resource management (HRM) that align with good strategic decision making to maintain organizations’ competitive advantage.
Learners acquire knowledge through an integrated approach of theory in human resource management and practice using real-time activities. Successful completion of this qualification will develop learners’ strategic human resource management and leadership skills and their ability to focus on the requirements of implementing an organization’s strategy.
The Level 7 Diploma in Human Resource Management qualification enables learners to progress into or within employment and/or to work toward a relevant Master’s Programme with advanced standing.
Business Research Methods
The aim of this unit is to develop learners’ research skills including the formulation of research proposals, literature reviews, referencing, data collection, use of interviews and surveys, questionnaire design, statistical analysis using SPSS, qualitative data and methods for drawing conclusions from the analyzed data.
Contemporary Issue In HRM - DC
The aim of this unit is to develop learners’ understanding of contemporary influences on, and contexts of, human resource management and to consider its role in change management processes. Learners will explore the legal and regulatory frameworks that underpin these processes.

The aim of this unit is to develop learners’ understanding of the principles and practices of performance and reward management in corporate contexts. Learners will acquire both theoretical and practical understanding of the diverse approaches to reward management and be able to critically reflect on the strengths and limitations of these approaches.
Strategic Human Resource Management
The aim of this unit is to develop learners’ understanding of how effective strategic management of human resources supports the achievement of organizational objectives in different contexts. Consideration is given to the contribution of strategic human resource management to competitive advantage and organizational growth.

Stage Two: MA Human Resource Management Top-up – 4 – 6 Months
Credits: 60 Credits
The MA Top-up is designed for those who have completed their Level 7 (Postgraduate) Diploma and aims to provide a means by which the continuing professional and personal needs of human resource practitioners may be met. This course aims to extend your understanding and competence whilst enhancing your ability to think strategically about management and organizational change.
This course is designed to broaden your specialist knowledge gained at the professional level. The Research Methods and Dissertation module provide an introduction to research, types of research methodology, planning a research project, data collection and analysis and the presentation of research findings.
Following the successful completion of your research methods project, you will undertake a dissertation related to an aspect of strategic significance for the organization. Previous topics have included the following:
- ‘An analysis of measures to re-engage the workforce after a major restructuring and downsizing programme’
- ‘An investigation of the human effects of organizational change in a merger and the role of the HR Function in influencing and supporting culture change’
- ‘Alternative strategies for identifying and tackling major HR challenges in the decade ahead’
For entry onto the Level 7 Diploma in Human Resource Management leading to the MA Human Resource Management qualification, learners must possess:
- An honours degree in related subject or UK level 6 diploma or equivalent overseas qualification i.e. Bachelors Degree or Higher National Diploma
- Mature learners (over 25) with at least 5 years of management experience if they do not possess the above qualification (this is reviewed on a case by case basis)
