The IPGD in Political Science covers essential modules that analyze the structure and dynamics of political systems worldwide. Learners study governance models, international relations, and public decision-making processes. Emphasis is placed on understanding political behavior, institutions, and global power interactions. The course integrates theory with practical perspectives to develop skilled professionals capable of addressing contemporary political challenges.

Course Details:

Comparative Political Systems: This module explores the structures, functions, and processes of different political systems around the world. It compares democratic, authoritarian, and hybrid regimes to understand how political power is distributed and exercised. 

Contemporary Political Thought: This module examines key political ideologies and theories shaping modern politics, including liberalism, socialism, conservatism, and feminism. It highlights how contemporary thinkers interpret justice, equality, and power in today’s societies. 

Foundations of Political Science: This module provides an introduction to the core principles, theories, and methodologies of political science. It examines the origins of political systems, state formation, and the role of government in society. 

Global Politics and International Relations: This module focuses on the interactions between states, international organizations, and non-state actors in the global arena. Topics include diplomacy, global governance, conflict resolution, and international cooperation. 

Governance and Political Institutions: This module analyzes how political institutions—such as legislatures, executives, and judiciaries—function and interact within governance systems. 

Political Attitudes and Behaviour: This module investigates how citizens’ beliefs, values, and social identities influence political participation and decision-making. It examines voting behavior, political socialization, and the impact of media on public opinion. 

Assessment: Graduation Project (GP)

Upon finishing the coursework, students must complete a graduation project (GP) that combines and utilises the knowledge acquired across different modules. This qualification embodies current practices in political science and helps learners deepen and broaden their understanding of the field at an advanced level.

Programme Structure and Credits:

This programme comprises 6 modules with 30 ECTS and 1 GP of 30 ECTS.

University Top-up

On completion of this course, students have the opportunity to complete a Master degree programme from Partner University. The top-up programme can be studied online or on campus. The top-up comprises the final 60 credits which consist of either a dissertation or a dissertation and one module.

For entry onto the International Postgraduate Diploma (IPGD) in political science qualification, learners must possess:

  • An honours degree in a related subject or the UK level 6 diploma or equivalent overseas qualification, i.e. Bachelors Degree or Higher National Diploma.

       OR

  • Mature learners (over 25) with at least five years of management experience if they do not possess the above qualification (this is reviewed on a case-by-case basis).
