This course provides a foundational understanding of the essential responsibilities and practices within health and social care environments. It explores the core principles of communication, ethics, personal development, safety, and information handling while emphasizing the importance of person-centred approaches and professional accountability. Learners will acquire the knowledge and skills needed to deliver compassionate, competent, and compliant care.

 Time Table 
The programme runs from 26 October 2026 to 26 July 2027, covering six academic learning and assessment periods. Teaching includes guided lectures, practical activities, case studies, group discussions, independent study and assignment preparation. A Winter Vacation is scheduled from 21 December 2026 to 8 January 2027, followed by a Spring Vacation from 29 March to 16 April 2027. The final period focuses on assignment completion, assessment, quality assurance, academic review and confirmation of programme completion, with results processed in August 2027.

 

This course provides learners with essential knowledge and practical skills required for working in health and social care settings. It covers core areas including effective communication, ethical practice, personal development, information handling, health and safety, person-centred care, and professional responsibilities. Designed for aspiring or current care workers, the course equips individuals to deliver safe, respectful, and responsive care while adhering to legal and ethical standards.

Upon the completion of the diploma, the student will be able to learn the following:

  • Demonstrate effective verbal, non-verbal, and digital communication techniques appropriate for diverse individuals in health and social care settings.
  • Apply ethical principles and frameworks to ensure respectful, confidential, and person-centred care that upholds individual rights and dignity.
  • Evaluate the importance of personal and professional development by setting reflective goals to improve performance in health and social care roles.
  • Implement secure methods of recording, handling, storing, and sharing information in accordance with data protection laws and organisational policies.
  • Identify and respond to potential risks and hazards to promote a safe and healthy environment for both care recipients and providers.
  • Support the physical, emotional, and mental well-being of individuals through health-promoting practices and preventative care measures.
  • Deliver person-centred care by recognising and respecting individual preferences, needs, and values, thereby encouraging independence and participation in decision-making.
  • Understand the legal, ethical, and professional responsibilities of a health and social care worker, including duty of care and adherence to standards.
  • Collaborate effectively with colleagues, service users, families, and external professionals to ensure cohesive, high-quality care.
  • Reflect critically on personal values, practices, and professional boundaries to enhance accountability and maintain high standards of care.
